There might be 2 hidden factors within your home or workplace that might be having a negative impact on your fertility. These two should not be overlooked and you should do everything in your power to help compare the negative impacts that Mold Exposure and EMFs may be having on your fertility health.

Mold Exposure [Silent, Often Invisible, and Dangerous]

Molds are often referred to as black mold, although color and composition vary & generally speaking, mold grows where the air is humid. Most will not cause harm, but in large quantities, or when the conditions are right for the mold to produce toxins, which can have an impact on your health.  

Mold can put your body into a state of alarm & can damage mitochondrial health. The toxins can affect the body’s central nervous system, as well as the immune system, which you are discovering, is very important to support to improve your fertility health.

Mold activates mast cells, causing them to be triggered happy, which can affect your hormone levels & histamine response. Histamine and estrogen feed each other, so the mold that activates mast cells to release histamine can cause an elevation in estrogen. 

If you were previously exposed to mold, this could have created a significant burden to your body. If you have lived or worked in a place that had visible mold, smelled musty, or had evidence of water damage, that exposure could have allowed mycotoxins to colonize in your body. Certain forms of colonized mold produce oxalates, which can have an effect on your hormones and therefore could impact your fertility.

Top Ways to Reduce and Reverse Mold Exposure: 

  • Use a dehumidifier in your house or workspace daily if you feel or know mold is an issue. You can use an air purifier if you don't feel there's a huge need for a dehumidifier. We have an AirDoctor in our house and move it around throughout the week.
  • You'll want to support your Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) Get out of sympathetic “fight or flight” which you might be put in due to the mold toxins. Your body can’t effectively detox and so it's just getting dumped back into the blood to be recirculated. Mindful breathing, yoga, meditation, qi gong, getting serious about your sleep & even binaural beats [all things you are learning in this program] can help move you into a parasympathetic state so your body is more ready to detoxify, repair, and reproduce. You'll also want to support your liver! You can do this [among other things] with bitter herbs. Bitters are known to aid digestion (especially of dietary fats) and stimulate bile flow that transports toxins from the liver to the intestines. Some common bitter herbs are dandelion root, burdock root, gentian root, and bitter green veggies like arugula and dandelion leaf.
  • Use activated charcoal as a binder to help clean up crew for certain mycotoxins. Bentonite clay and saccharomyces boulardii are going to be more effective for zearalenone. 
  • Sweat it out! Many mycotoxins are lipophilic, which means they are attracted to and bind to the lipid portion of lipid proteins (i.e. lipoproteins). Because of this, mycotoxins can persist in the body for long periods of time. Certain mycotoxins have been found in sweat, and a sauna is often a useful therapy in helping people with mycotoxicosis to feel considerably better. 
  • Wash mold-exposed fabrics in borax. Borax is a natural mold and mildew killer that doesn’t emit toxic fumes.

EMFs and Fertility Issues

In the digital age, it's hard not to be exposed to human-made EMFs every day - they’re almost impossible to avoid. Unfortunately, you absorb EMFs from most technology: your cell phone, computer, tablet, television, WIFI router, Bluetooth, and pretty much anything else that runs on batteries or electricity. 

A small amount of EMF exposure is fine. In fact, the earth has its own electromagnetic field, and the natural EMFs you absorb keep your cells running properly. But the problem is, that you absorb way more EMFs from technology than your body evolved to tolerate. 

Female & Male Fertility Issues and EMFs

As a woman, one of the best markers of fertility is your number of ovarian primordial follicles. These follicles store healthy, immature eggs in your ovaries, releasing them during ovulation throughout your life. The more follicles you have, the more eggs your ovaries are keeping in reserve. 

A 2015 study found that EMF exposure causes follicles to decrease rapidly—essentially destroying egg stores at a faster rate than usual and reducing your odds of pregnancy [2]

And even if you do get pregnant, EMFs may still be a threat. A 2016 study found that women in Tehran had a higher risk of spontaneous miscarriage after exposure to EMFs [3]

For men, you also need to be aware of EMFs and fertility, especially if you carry a cell phone near the jewels. 

Cell phone radiation increases testicular proteins that are related to carcinogenic risk and reproductive damage, lower testosterone production, reduced sperm motility, and changes in the physical structure of sperm cells [1][6].

Placing his laptop on his lap has a similar effect—the EMF radiation damages his sperm cells and messes with your hormone production [5]. WiFi, Bluetooth, and other wireless sources of radiation may cause similar problems, like cell phone radiation does [6]

Simple Ways to Limit Your EMF Exposure

The good news is that with a few hacks, you can protect yourself against EMFs and minimize the amount of them that you absorb. Limiting EMF exposure is especially important if you’re trying to conceive, as EMFs are a common (and hidden) source of fertility issues.  

  • Avoid keeping your cellphone on your physical body (i.e., pocket, bra, belt)
  • Turn off your Bluetooth when you’re not actively using it
  • Turn off the WIFI in your house before bedtime
  • Designate technology-free time daily or weekly
  • Don’t sleep with your cell phone next to your head
  • Never put your laptop directly on your lap
  • Unplug devices and appliances after use
  • Set a daily limit on mindless device time (i.e., social media, YouTube)
  • Spend more time outdoors (Nature is full of EMF-mitigating negative ions!) If this is difficult you can get grounding gadgets for your household:
