Oh, welcome back to another episode of finding fertility. I am here today with Christina raker. I'm so excited to have her on because you guys know I love everything mindset. And we've not really talked about hypnotherapy on this podcast. So I'm super excited to have you on welcome.
Yes. Thank you for having me. I'm so excited to talk about hypnotherapy today. So as you said, my name is Christina Ricker, and I am a certified hypnosis practitioner. And so my background is really in psychology and mental health counselling. That's what I originally got my education in, I was so set on going on that route. But you know, as life happened, I realised the clinical setting and working with people wasn't exactly for me it did, I didn't feel like I could connect with people the way I really wanted to. So I ended up you know, exploring more modalities and techniques and really fell in love with neuro linguistic programming, and hypnotherapy. And so that's where I am now. And it's just such a powerful way to connect with people and really, a lot of people in you know, looking to expand their mental health and really focus on that area of their life. The subject, they don't talk about the subconscious mind enough and talk therapy, you know, is as beautiful technique and which doesn't work for everybody. And so I really love hypnotherapy and NLP techniques, because you really work with the subconscious mind and get to the root of everything and really be able to make these changes in a more like peaceful, calm and easy way. So
it's, I've never personally used it myself, but I've always been super fascinated by it. I'm doing a lot of subconscious work now. I didn't necessarily use it during my trying to conceive years, because let's just face it, no one was really talking about subconscious beliefs and how it can really impact your fertility. But I found that you know, your subconscious just controls everything. So like if you're struggling to change your diet, you know, to help improve your situation, because that's the most tangible thing, right? Everyone goes to diet and supplementation. If you have a mindset, like a lack mindset, or like low self worth, or self love, you're just not going to stick to those goals. Because your subconscious mind is always like trying to protect you, right, like don't change, we like it this way.
Absolutely. And even beyond that the subconscious mind is controlling our belief systems, our programming, so we can even go deeper to the fact of believing if your nutrition is going to help you and work for you. And the programme we have fits, like making us live a life that's more stressed or more anxious. No matter what we eat, our body can just be in this fight or flight mode all the time that's having hormones and immune system disruption, which no so your nutrition isn't even being used at the best value it can because of the stress you're feeling. And that that subconscious mind programming that's just going without your awareness. It's your autopilot thoughts. And so yeah, you can be changing your lifestyle and have one have difficulty changing your lifestyle, being able to stick to those habits, create new habits, whatever it may be, but then the other part of it is the stress the beliefs that may be just negating any positive things you're doing anyway.
Yeah. I find the clients that are unsuccessful in my programmes. I can't seem to help them shift completely into that mindset of abundance and belief and worthiness. So I do work with other practitioners to help go deeper in that because it's just not what I'm I'm trained and doing but it's after years of coaching now. It's quite like like I can I can I can notice it really quickly. I'm Like, okay, I know you're gonna do every physical thing I tell you to do. But I know you're going to struggle on the mindset piece. So what are kind of like your entry points of hypnotherapy? Like, can you just kind of talk us through if someone came to you and was just willing to try it but knew nothing about subconscious mind?
Yes, absolutely. Well, first I'll start a little bit just explaining what hypnotherapy is and how it works with the subconscious mind. I love to start out saying that what hypnotherapy isn't actually because I think, a big myth that it is mind control. A lot of people think of what they see in the movies or on a comedy show where someone's waving a clock and then quacking like a duck. That is so not what hypnotherapy is. It's for a hypnosis in a therapeutic setting. It is used to access the subconscious mind in a really calm, relaxing with a and so you go through a progressive relaxation as the therapist you really guide the client, because hypnosis is self hypnosis, I cannot make you do anything that you don't want to do. You are in control the entire time. You are very aware, you can answer questions, and you can, you won't take anything in as truth that is against your morals. And so that's the beauty of the hypnotherapy, you really have a good conversation and get to the real root of what you're looking to change. And we use that in a positive way to directly speak to the subconscious mind, which is highly suggestible. And so in hypnotherapy, through the progressive relaxation, we get you into a trance state, and I think trance state that kind of scares people like what is that? But actually, it's something we go through, in and out all throughout our day. It's just a theta brainwave, which is naturally happening when you're waking up in the morning, when you're falling asleep, even throughout your day, Mindlessly scrolling, or I think this one's very common. You're driving somewhere you drive every day. And you're like, I'm here already, like, how did I get here, I don't remember taking that exit. That's kind of being in a trance state where your conscious mind kind of takes the backseat, your thinking mind, your critical mind, and you're just going through the motions. And so that can be good sometimes, because we're able to get to what we're doing easily and efficiently. But it could be negative, if we're being suggested things that I mean, it'd be helpful to us like maybe some commercials or things like that. So in hypnotherapy, we use that translate that indirectly speak to the subconscious mind in a positive, powerful way, using imagery and suggestions that are supportive of your goals and where what you want to do, what kind of change you're looking to make.
Yeah, yeah, it's, it's super powerful. I just finished reading, body of belief by Bruce Lipton. And, I mean, it didn't say anything I didn't already know or believe, but he obviously comes from a very scientific background, and like yours are like yourself, you know, the traditional, like, oh, go help people in this traditional setting, and then all of a sudden going, actually, that's just not, you know, the whole truth, right? Like, we have totally been led to believe that we are our beliefs, we are not our, like, we're just who we are. And there's nothing we can do to change it, you were born that way. And that's how you're going to be the rest of your life. But the evidence is, you know, really, really shining a light that not only can you change your environment, by your diet, your lifestyle and all the physical things, but just your mindset is like super, super powerful.
Absolutely. I mean, we I'm just such a big believer that we are all self healing. And you have that power to go into the subconscious mind. And so the subconscious mind, from ages zero to seven, you were kind of a walking trance state. And that's when all of your programming and beliefs really kind of were planted in there. And those are kind of repeating in our everyday life, things that we learned, and they may not be supporting where we are anymore. And not to say everything we learned was negative A lot of it was great, like maybe great communication styles or beliefs that you can do anything or but some of them can be negative and hurting us now. And those beliefs kind of live in our mind and in our body. And that's where kind of disease comes from like that, that negative energy, that dis ease in your body, and you have the power to move that energy to heal yourself. Your your body wants to be in a state of healing. And a lot of the things we're doing are kind of just preventing it rather than promoting it. So I think it's so powerful to use this subconscious, this really easy, relaxing technique to move the energy in the body, reprogram the beliefs in our mind. and start to move in alignment with what we want.
Yeah. What are your thoughts about so for me, I didn't really know that I had a lot of, you know, subconscious limiting beliefs like a lot. And it actually wasn't until I started finding fertility that those really started to, like, show their ugly head. So I got pregnant with IVF. And naturally, after doing a lot of physical changes and mental stuff, you know, I was working on my subconscious. While I was working on my mindset, I would say, What do you say to people probably like me, who were like, well, I don't have anything like that, like, surely that's like not blocking my fertility. What's kind of your like, you know, your soapbox message.
And I mean, I think anyone interested in willing to further their journey and further, what else they can do in this process to boost their fertility and move forward in this, in this journey is trying like you're willing to try new nutrition and new exercise, and maybe journaling or affirmations. But if something's there some if you feel stuck, yeah, I would say no, therapy is a perfect technique to use, because it does uncover the root cause of some of your, some of the beliefs you have, and what you don't know you're not conscious of them all the time, you may just going through these habitual patterns in your life thinking this is just who I am. But what happens in hypnotherapy is you maybe access some old memories and some old stories and realise this is where I first started this belief. And it has been repeating itself throughout my entire life, and maybe just resurface. Now that I'm in this new challenge, like maybe life has been pretty good. And now I'm feeling very challenged. And a lot of these patterns are coming out and not supporting where I am. So if you feel stuck, if you feel blocked, if you feel uncertain about what's next, why aren't things working, then hypnotherapy is an amazing tool to kind of dig a little deeper, in a really easy way, you don't have to relive anything, like you may feel like you do in talk therapy, you kind of explore the subconscious in in a relaxed state where you're dissociated. And so you're just observing, and you can really learn from the initial experience that happened, that may be where this certain belief came from. And you may not even know like, wow, I didn't even realise I didn't really feel worthy of getting what I want. I didn't realise I don't feel deserving of health, you know, all these things that you don't notice in your life, because you're consciously, you know, rejecting ideas and thinking, Oh, this is everything's fine. Like, this is how I live. And this is just the way things are. And so when you really access the subconscious mind, you get to the root of a lot of these things that may have just had been layers on top of layers over it, and you didn't even know they were there.
Yeah, I think a big one, too, is the belief that you're not good enough to be a mother during the infertility? You sir. I mean, obviously, it's subconscious beliefs, but they start manifesting into like, real beliefs, right? And you start saying stuff out loud out loud, like, it doesn't matter, like, you know, all those negative things. I definitely had to, like grapple with that one of like, well, why don't I believe I'm, I'm not worthy of that. But
yeah, I feel like people start to, I don't want to say hate but hate their body is so mad and angry and frustrated with their body. And that, you know, could that could be from trauma or recent at the start of your fertility journey, which, of course, can be very traumatic. It could also send stem from something you know, in childhood, but whatever it is, you need to kind of reframe those beliefs because they start to your beliefs start to become true, your body reacts biochemically to your beliefs. And so if you start to think I'm broken, your body, your mind releases, hormones and chemicals that allow that to be true. And it's the same, it's the opposite. When you start to believe I am healthy, I am self healing. Your body starts to release chemicals that make that be true. Yeah. And so I love to give everyone a little example of how your body works biochemically and which is one of the you know, Keystone hypnotherapy. If you were to imagine that this is the the powerful, the powerfulness of imagination, but if you were to think of a lemon, right, and you cut that lemon right in half, and you see the juices and you smell that citrus smell and you make a wedge and you're bringing it up to your mouth and you smell it and it's juicy and you take a bite. For me even telling the story I started to have a little bit of a body reaction like glands got Like I was good about to taste something tartly we celebrated a little bit more. And that was from pure imagination, right. But my body started acting in real time. And so you're that's just shows how powerful your thoughts are and how your body starts to react and what can happen or hypnotherapy session, when you use that imagination to make, like, powerful positive changes.
Yeah, it's, it's mind blowing, right? Like, as we all grew up, you know, for many of us listening to this, in a society that just really disconnected everything, right, like, we've literally separated our whole body. And with infertility, you know, they're staring at your lady bits, where I would say 97% of the time is either in your gut, in your endocrine system, or in your head has nothing to do with your with your, you know, your womb and your ovaries, your lady, but and yeah, we are, we have to get back to that. That way of thought the knowing like, all our ancestors knew like our body was one, right, and we treated it as a whole, like, obviously, you got to do little things here and there. But it's, the more you dig into it, the more you're just mind blown. And you and you don't even have to believe in it right now. Right? So just try it, just like get into little things. And what I would highly suggest is, I always say to people work with a coach first. Because if you try to do this on your own, your monkey mind is going to get the better of you. I feel like the mindset and the subconscious mind piece is one of the hardest things to do. Because with diet, it's kind of out of sight out of mind, right? Like you just don't buy the food in your house. Like I don't bring alcohol into my house because we have a love hate relationship right? And about with your subconscious mind, and this is why I think I really struggled, especially with yoga and meditation was like, it was like, Whoa, this is too slow. This is too like you need to be going you know, like all your other thoughts and like so working with someone really helps one it gives you accountability and focus because you're paying that person good money. Yeah, and so they know what they're doing. And they can just really streamline it and once you build that muscle, you are able to do things on your own. Eventually, I do believe that that is possible. But yeah, working with someone's get you there first is super important.
Absolutely. It can feel so overwhelming even my own fertility journey. I always felt like I had a pretty good grasp on nutrition exercise. And then when I started learning how to work those things in for fertility to boost fertility, I was like, okay, okay, we got to get things we got to change it up. But for me, the biggest struggle was the mindset part was the the stress and anxiety I think that was real and having that control over everything. And I really like to share with people that I know everyone hears and it's such a trigger. I know for people who are trying to conceive just relax, right? Like everyone like cringe is like telling you ever again and I'm gonna lose it. But the beauty of it is you can learn techniques to really feel more calm and peaceful in this journey and it is beneficial. Like there's some truth behind the just relax as much as it's frustrating. But that you can manage you can learn to manage your new lifestyle change to support you and ends up feeling really good and moving you in the right direction when you start to get your nutrition and exercise in, in line and then that mental aspect that body mind body connection, you just start to feel so balanced and it can be really easy. When you use your subconscious mind programming to work for you and support your new lifestyle changes.
Yeah, it doesn't have to be hard, right? Like we are in the thick of fertility struggles like it's gonna be hard to get there. But with all the right support, you can really make it a peaceful, easy journey. I think too with the mindset piece that I've realised and I'm very grateful for is that it actually helps you gain patience for motherhood. Because I think a lot of people think that in the for the struggle makes motherhood that much easier and is just doesn't at all.
A lot. There's a lot of like misconceptions like if I try harder if I hold on tighter if I do think stricter. If I struggle this much, then I'm worthy. Maybe then I know it's gonna come. Then I'm this committed. And I think that's it The society like fear base, kind of consciousness, that's or unconsciousness rather, that's kind of moulding society. Like that's how a lot of us live. And it's nice to kind of see the other side of it and say, You know what we can be conscious, we can be thoughtful and aware and let things be easy. And then still work out. Like I like to say, like, when you feel like you can feel peaceful and calm and still be 100% committed to your goals. It's not one or the other. You don't have to be stressed out and wired to make to know that you're committed to your goals. Yeah. And so to use like hypnotherapy in such a calm, easy setting and really change subtly change your patterns in your life to support that. I think it's just incredible.
Yeah, definitely. I wish I would have known for sure about subconscious mind many years ago. I think we all we get there when we're ready, right? Because I think that's another thing you you can hear the same message 100 times, and it's the 101 time that you're like, I get it. Okay, I'm ready for it. Because maybe it's those subconscious beliefs that just keep blocking you. I don't know. It's like chicken the egg. Right. Exactly. Exactly.
